Bayonne Bridge Update | The City of Bayonne, NJ: More closures announced:
"Weekend closures: The Port Authority will close the Bayonne Bridge during three weekends in August. Each closure will begin at 12:00 midnight on Friday nights and will continue (at the latest) to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoons. The closures will include the weekends of August 1, 2, and 3; August 8, 9, and 10; and August 15, 16, and 17. The Port Authority will advertise these closings. During these periods, motorists should travel by other routes.
Twenty-minute daytime closures: The Port Authority will announce multiple daytime closures for twenty minutes, in order to transport equipment or large pieces of construction materials across the bridge. These closures are called “hold and pull” operations, because they involve allowing one side of traffic through while holding up the other. “Hold and pull” operations will happen periodically, but will not be a daily occurrence. These twenty-minute closures will be announced on the Port Authority’s website. The next round of “hold and pull” closures will begin in August.
Six-hour closures: The Port Authority will close the Bayonne Bridge from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on mid-week days that will be announced at least one week in advance. These mid-week, six-hour closures will happen an estimated forty to fifty times over the next year, and will begin in September or October. The Port Authority will advise EZ Pass users of these closings by e-mail."
