A thing of beauty: 20,000 gathered for Bayonne Bridge opening
NJ.com: "The day of the dedication began with an early morning drive over the bridge by Bayonne Mayor Lucius F. Donohoe at 5:01 a.m. That afternoon a record turnout of approximately 20,000 spectators crowded the Bayonne Plaza at Seventh Street and Hudson (now Kennedy) Boulevard for the festivities. Among the dignitaries were N.J. Gov. Morgan F. Larson and former N.Y. Gov. Alfred E. Smith. Local participants included the Bayonne High School chorus and band and organizations such as the Spanish-American War and World War I veterans, Exempt Firemen, Knights of Columbus, and the Girls Scouts.
