Andrew Cuomo, said the $1 billion investment to raise the roadway of the Bayonne Bridge, which connects New York City’s Staten Island and Bayonne, N.J., will allow larger ships to enter the port. The Port of New York and New Jersey now handles 9,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) ships, with cargo volume up 4% in 2011. The port expects to have a 50-foot channel by 2014."
