With Panama Canal expanding, U.S. cities plan similar port development: "Aside from digging deeper ports, cities are also contending with other engineering dilemmas. In New York, for example, the Port Authority is planning to raise the Bayonne Bridge by 64 feet, as it is currently too low to allow the freight vessels of tomorrow to pass through. The bridge-raising project is projected to take five years to complete, and it carries a $1 billion price tag"
