Future commute: 10 ways the maddening trip might transform | SILive.com

SILive.com: West Shore light rail: Last year, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority committed to studying the potential for a West Shore light rail. The proposed light rail would run about 13 miles from Richmond Valley to Elm Park, carrying Island commuters over the Bayonne Bridge to connect with New Jersey Transit's Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Line. Aerial gondola: A Colorado-based company has come up with a design for an aerial gondola that runs from Staten Island to Bayonne in six minutes. Leitner-Poma of America has created a design for a route that would connect Staten Island commuters to New Jersey's Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system. According to the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation, this would create a 33-minute commute from Staten Island to downtown Manhattan.
